Our Roots: How HIS Wingspan Gave Rise to HER Wingspan…

HER Wingspan, Inc. was birthed from the foundation of HIS Wingspan — a legacy initiative rooted in purpose and pride.

Originally established to promote the academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes with disabilities, HIS Wingspan offered personalized portfolio and presentation services that helped these students showcase their excellence, both in and out of the classroom. It started with a simple mission: to ensure that talent, ability, and aspiration were not overlooked because of disability or circumstance in an effort to secure scholarships.

As HIS Wingspan expanded its offerings to include recognition products, advocacy services, and academic resources, a deeper truth emerged: the communities we served needed more than recognition — they needed representation, support, and opportunity on a wider scale. The vision grew beyond athletes, portfolios, and products. It grew into a movement.

HER Wingspan was created to meet that moment.

Now an independent nonprofit, HER Wingspan carries forward the original mission — with an expanded lens. Through our four core pillars — Arts, Academics, Athletics, and Advocacy — HER Wingspan supports individuals and families, amplifies underrepresented voices, and offers training programs designed to affirm identity, inspire bold dreams, and spark collective transformation.
